The Cootees

Let’s Play House

Tooth & Nail

What at first appeared to be just another gimmicky punk album turned out to be a fabulous punk gem. This has the same urgency and savvy Green Day had before they sold out. The 18 cuts are packed with meaningful, witty, hookish, snotty punk attitude, but without the whiney sneering. The opening cut, titled “(blank),” is an extremely clever Zen number about writing a song that could be about a number of relevant things but ends up being about writing this one. Get it? “DDF” is a nifty song about Distance Distortion Factor, that universal phenomenon that causes us to see things differently up close. These four guys crank out some great punk. Oi!
