Trio Patrekatt

Adam

Mondo Melodia/Ark 21

The best way I can think of describing these pieces is that they sound like entire songs’ worth of those couple of bars of really cool string intro. Featuring one cello and two nyckelharpa (a keyed fiddle) players, Trio Patrekatt perform their renditions of traditional Swedish folk music. How much interpretation is going is beyond me, and probably beyond the portion of our reading audience not familiar with traditional Swedish music. Still, Trio Patrekatt’s sound is interesting, and their compositions – which mix bits of classical phrasing with unexpected joyful melodic twists – are at the same time soothing and intriguing. Somewhere between the string quartet by the fountain and the grinnin’ fiddler at the hoedown play Trio Patrekatt. No kidding. Ark 21, 3520 Hayden Ave., Culver City, 90232
