I see something coalescing in Atlanta, something complex and angular and not quite predictable. Chaotic, yes. Ordered, in a strange way, too. Taking cues equally from free jazz and head-pounding aggressive hardcore, Wit’s End challenge their music more than play it, daring it to outstrip their ability to match whimsy for nuance, or keep up with its erratic tangents. Instrumental virtuosity from this guitar/bass/drums trio abounds, if their “all tracks live to tape” claim holds true. The Intergalactic Cowboy guests on “Nutter Butters, Cheap Beer, and a Joint,” which choogles along like a late-night run for mid-rehearsal refreshments.
