The way things are going, Goo Goo Dolls hardly need any help from me to sell a lot of records. However, since I’ve been a supporter for many years now, I’ll throw in my two cents anyway. Dizzy Up the Girl is clearly one of the best pop records released this year, if not ever, and should firmly establish Johnny Rzeznik as the Buddy Holly of his generation. The Goo Goo Dolls are often compared to the Replacements because of their punkish pop sensibilities. Now don’t get me wrong, because I love the Replacements (Paul Westerberg slept on my kitchen floor), but they could never have made a record this good. If it weren’t for the fact that I’m a little burnt on “Iris” (#1 hit, etc.), I could listen to this album endlessly. Goo Goo Dolls have always been a pop band with no pretension and no apologies.
