Headliner Percussion has recently added another traditional Thai instrument called a Yao ($49.50) to its line. Unlike its Thai cousin the Ramwong, the Yao is a wooden cup-shaped instrument that includes a drum head and is shaped similarly to the African djembe. The Yao is used in Thailand for festive ceremonies and derives its favor from the unique timbre of its high tone.
