The Matrix

Music From the Motion Picture

Maverick

Skip the first track, unless you really want to torture yourself with Marilyn Manson (sounding like he just rehashed his “Beautiful People” single). Therein, The Matrix ‘s soundtrack delves deeply into industrial/techno land (nicely complementing the movie’s theme), with yummy tracks like the Propellerheads’ “Spybreak! (Short One)” and Ministry’s “Bad Blood” (and it even actually sounds like Ministry!), which leads nicely into Rob D’s “Clubbed to Death (Kurayamino Mix).” Prodigy and Meat Beat Manifesto make worthwhile contributions with “Prime Audio Soup” and “Mindfields,” respectively. With all its emphasis on indifferent machines and cold technology, one has to wonder why the lackluster Rage Against The Machine or Deftones tracks were included. Perhaps they wanted examples of what happens when you fall prey to apathy.
