“perio”

Perio

Medium Crash

Lithium

Odd French music – sounds like a Dutch/European version of angular folk bands like Guv’ner. Like fancy modern furniture, Perio appear to be more uncomfortable than they really are. Subdued and strummy, Sarah Froning and Eric Deleporte trade off on vocal duties (singing in English) to come up with something haunting yet simple. Two versions of “Billboard,” one with unconventional instrumentation (banjo, mandolin, clarinet) and the other with a more populist approach, show a delicate tune nestling amidst unexpected flourishes – it’s really quite a unique mix. Perio successfully bridge territory between mopey jangle malaise and 4AD glossy depression, ending up with a record that’s slow to draw you in but essentially inescapable.
