Vibes

Withdrawn

Knitting Factory

This power trio – Bill Ware on vibes, EJ Rodriguez on drums and Brad Jones on bass – rips through fifteen showcases for the unique resonant tone of the vibraphone. Among the original compositions are arrangements of familiar tunes like “House of the Rising Sun” (given an ominous ambiance by distorted vibes) and “Close To You,” which now sounds like it was written for vibes all along and meant to be more ruminative than the drooly-drippy Carpenters version we’re all familiar with. The grand effect is subdued but not sopoforic. Ware’s subtle chiming plays well against the rhythm section, and it’s easy to while away the hour-plus in this record.
