This recalls some of Sebadoh’s slower, quieter, more heartwrenching songs, the ones that say exactly what is hidden in the secret corners of your heart. Yeah, this does that, too, and there are some vocal similarities going on as well. But whereas those Sebadoh songs are rather few and far between, this seems to be David Bazan’s forte’. Joined by bass and drums, he pens songs with strikingly honest emotion and insights. I missed them when they toured with Jets To Brazil, but from what I’ve heard they are even more powerful live. That’s hard to imagine.
