Etienne Charry

Kindercore

Thirty-six tracks, most between a minute and minute and a half. French miniaturist Etienne Charry has a refreshingly bare-bones approach to his songs, which end up sounding like musical sketches rather than full-blown production numbers, and they’re so much the better for it. A propensity for spiky guitar, doodling synth lines and preset drum machine patterns (not to mention the heavily treated French vocals) define the Etienne Charry sound. If you’re familiar with They Might Be Giants’ “Fingertips” and can visualize a French lo-fi version, you’d have a pretty clear idea of what this sounds like.
