Drew Gress

Spin & Drift

Premonition

Smooth and powerful jazz that follows in the footsteps of Thelonious Monk and Charles Mingus. Not trying to be modern and caught up in the art-stained thrill of improv and noise, Drew Gress concentrates on style and song, chasing the notes and beats with nimble and involving bass. Drums, solid and staccato, breathing and fleeing and flying, dance under the sticks held by Tom Rainey, while Uri Caine’s piano just adds the flow to the motion. Having worked with contemporary jazz notables such as Bill Frisell and Don Byron, among others, Drew knows where he’s coming from, and knows where he’s going.
