The Bees

Punchbag EP

Wall Of Sound

Light pop music mixed with some jazzy chord progressions and nice harmonies constitute the Punchbag EP. On first listen, I imagined this was a newer Steely Dan, updated for the millennium. Of the six tracks on this EP, the standouts include the title track, “Punchbag,” and a cover of the Brazilian group Os Mutantes’ “A Minha Menina.” Mixing the best of both worlds from ’70s-type pop music as well as flecking some strands of world music into the mix, The Bees deliver a winning recipe of music that transcends the often formulaic and anemic music scene currently available. This provides a nice teaser as well as some bonus tracks for their forthcoming release, “Sunshine Hit Me.”
