MOC

Soft emo-rock with schizophrenic guitars and intelligent lyrics to boot. Boylion, formed in Elmhurst, Illinois in 2000, is an all-around good example of why it’s okay for four guys (and one girl) to show their feelings. The best songs are those that creep up on you – sad and powerful, demanding of your attention and pondering. Most of the lyrics seem to deal with the age-old boy/girl trouble (meeting, keeping, letting go), but that subject matter is never overdone when it’s been reborn with the musical vision of a bunch of touring college kids. The fun song: “Standing Ovation.” The sad song: “South York.” It’s young, inventive, and somber in a lot of ways, but still very cool if for no other reason than the crazy title.
