38 Special

A Wild Eyed Christmas Night

Sanctuary

38 Special have made a career out of catchy, southern-fried, hard-hitting riffs. Unfortunately, you won’t find any on A Wild-Eyed Christmas Night. The majority of the songs are laid back and vocal- or keyboard-driven, and, quite frankly, pretty cheesy. There are a couple of upbeat numbers here, “Jingle Bell Rock,” for instance. But, even in that one, the guitars are mixed way down. I guess I just want to hear loud guitars from 38 Special.

Oh well, this is a Christmas album, after all. It’ll still piss your relatives off if you take out the Charlotte Church Does Christmas CD and pop this one in. Just don’t expect to be rockin’ into the night.
