Those who enjoyed Sixpence None the Richer’s smash “Kiss Me” are sure to warm to this one as well. Although the Austin five-piece thankfully never tries to retread old paths, Divine Discontent is still a charming piece of 1980s pop revivalism done with enough blue-eyed, honest naivete to make it just about impossible to dislike. Taking in everything from haunting misery, on “Still Burning,” to the expansive summer rush of “Paralyzed,” Sixpence’s best shot at another stint at the singles charts may be their fine take on Crowded House’s “Don’t Dream It’s Over.” Retro pop music with substance and a heart. Sometimes that’s all it takes.
