Melissa Gibson

Welcome To Stay

Java Joe’s

Welcome To Stay is one of those albums that treads overtly familiar paths, but is just about impossible to dislike. Melissa Gibson’s singer-songwriter folk is upbeat and sunny, with a thin string of weary-eyed melancholy running throughout. The album’s general tone is positive and uplifting, underlined by her warm, laid-back voice and beautifully subdued playing. Bringing to mind performers like Mary Chapin Carpenter and Marc Cohn, Gibson makes no claims of uniqueness, but her everyday tales of self-assertion and quiet faith are wonderfully bighearted. Gibson is a mature, modest and confident artist who doesn’t need to push her talent up your nose to be heard and recognized. A quiet victory.
