You are someone else, I am still right here
I wrote a review for Amazon.com of the Essential Johnny Cash three-CD set I ordered after he passed. They never ran it. Why? I’m not sure, but I think the fact that I started the review with something like “Johnny Cash says more about faith in action than pious frauds like George W. Bush ever will” might have a bit to do with it.
Cash was to country what Miles Davis was to jazz and what Frank Sinatra was to jazzy, big-band singing. I can hardly recommend The Johnny Cash Memorial Tribute: A Celebration of Friends and Family, which aired Saturday on CMT and will re-air Sunday at 2 p.m., highly enough. I got goose pimples from the very first moments and was moved to tears soon afterward and at various points throughout.
