Charmed

The Soundtrack

Private

A weird concept, this is. I don’t think I’ve ever heard anyone comment on how great the music for Charmed – Aaron Spelling’s witchy comedy-soap-drama – is. “Wow! The music on Charmed this week went off!”. And, as it turns out, this disc is mediocre anyway. It’s pop music through and through, with obligatory (and boring) contributions from Smash Mouth and Third Eye Blind setting the tone early on. There’s a reason you didn’t notice these tracks the last time you watched Charmed (c’mon, I know you watch it, secretly): they’re perfect wallpaper. Stereophonics raise the bar slightly, Vanessa Carlton’s “Rinse” was one of the better tracks on her debut from last year (and one of the best on this soundtrack) and there’s an unreleased Balligomingo track on here. But for the most part, you’re better off sticking to television.
