Dashboard Confessional

A Mark * A Mission * A Brand * A Scar

Vagrant

It had to happen eventually. Chris Carraba was destined to grow up a little. And now all we’re left with is powerful emo pop rock in the place of poignant emo balladry. Oh, how I long for the days of The Swiss Army Romance

Truth be told, it’s not all bad. A Mark is a solid record. Sure, the addition of three “band” members has meant the loss of the raw honesty that Chris’s old “me-and-a-guitar” formula afforded him, but the songwriting here is still spot-on and the production seaworthy. And who can bemoan an artist for evolving? Certainly not I – except when that evolution seems to squeeze some of the heart out of one hyper-talented musician.

I’m retreating to my bedroom to listen to old Dashboard records and pine over lost love.
