The Sound of the Crowd

You Only Need To Read This…

…if you still wonder how long John Ashcroft has before the statue of justice comes to life, yanks the offensive curtain off her wonderful breast, and strikes him down with the sword in her hand.

Ashcroft…defended himself against allegations that he wasn’t attentive to the terrorist threat. He blamed the Clinton administration for not acting in the previous eight years.

“The simple fact of Sept. 11 is this: We did not know an attack was coming because for nearly a decade our government had blinded itself to its enemies,” Ashcroft said. “Our agents were isolated by government-imposed walls, handcuffed by government-imposed restrictions and starved for basic information technology. The old national intelligence system in place on Sept. 11 was destined to fail.” </a>

ETA: Looks like the 9/11 commision is going to bitchslap him.

Aides to Mr. Ashcroft, who is scheduled to testify before

the commission on Tuesday, said he would tell the panel

that he was briefed throughout the year on terrorist

threats and was never informed – by either the F.B.I. or

C.I.A. – that he needed to take special action, since

intelligence reports suggested that any attack would be

overseas. </b>

(Is it me, or between Mr. Ashcroft and Mr. Bush, do you get the impression they’re used to people telling them exactly what to do? And in this instance, when their jobs required them to…what is the word…think, to show a little imagination, that is why they failed?)
