Just caught Terminator 3
On HBO–what a crappy movie! The only thing that makes it any good at all is that it reminds you what a great movie Terminator 2 really was.
Cameron knew how to get the best out of source material that includes the works of Ellison, Asimov and Campbell. After the superlative first film, he envisioned that rare sequel which actually advances the story of the original, and brings it to a natural stopping place.
But forget the fact that T3’s story should never have begun–the movie’s ending–what ending?–is not one the filmmakers should have been able to get away with.
Not unless T4 was already filming. And since Arnold’s being out of the movie biz for the forseeable future makes that impossible, it leaves T3’s ending needlessly sad and pessimistic.
And that ain’t right.
