Long Gone Before Daylight

I can claim, in my smug music-critic way, to have liked The Cardigans before most of America discovered the Swedish band with their hit single “Lovefool.” (“Love me, love me, say that you love me•”) Their 1995 album Life was part fine pop and part hysterical put-on (“Sabbath Bloody Sabbath?”), and their most infectious songs have always had a childlike quality.

Now, though, they sound like they’re entering a painful puberty.
