The Case for Kerry
Made by Scott McConnell, executive editor of the American Conservative magazine.
It can be argued that this is less the case for Kerry, and more George Bush: The Case Against. If I had to describe the sense I get of the author, it is this: Kerry is imperfect, but Bush is impossible.
So though he doesn’t really want to endorse Kerry, he does so with sensible even-handedness, realizing that it’s necessary for his country and his party. Who could ask for anything more?
And considering it’s from a conservative POV, there’s surprisingly little in it with which I can argue; certainly about Bush (which was to be expected), but even about Kerry.
In particular, he points out that one thing which has kept Kerry’s hands manacled during the most important fight of his life: The increasingly indefensable vote in favor of the Iraq war.
It’s times like this that far-left liberals like me think longingly of the days when talk of a Dean/Clark ticket was all the rage.
