The Sound of the Crowd

And as long as I’m dreaming

…I’d like a pony. Over in the Hoffmania site, there’s a discussion of fantasy Kerry cabinet members. Here’s a slightly corrected version of what I posted.

Hmmmmm, now if it were up to me (and if I were being Utopian in my outlook)…

Biden’s gotta be in there. I’d love to see some combination of him and Wesley Clark at Defense and State, but I’m told for Defense there is some rule about the length of time you have been out of the service. So maybe Clark at State and Biden just head of some high-ranking comitee in the Senate.

Max Cleland is good for the VA.

Richard Clarke would be good for National Security Advisor but he made a big to-do about saying he wouldn’t accept a job in a Kerry cabinet.

Al Gore–Chief of Staff. I don’t think he’d ever accept this position, but like I said, as long as I’m dreaming. I’d like to have someone who was a consistent critic of Bush & the Iraq war among Kerry’s closest advisors.

Howard Dean, Robert Byrd and Dennis Kucinich should all have “places at the table” in a Kerry administration. If for no other reason than to acknowledge that they were right early and often about the war in Iraq. I just don’t know what positions they should fill.

Somebody at Hoffmania had the idea that Dean should be the new head of the Democratic party, and I like that idea. I think I’d put Kucinich in Education. As for Byrd, I don’t think this is a cabinet position (State?), but I’d love to see him be in charge of appropriations for the military.

Remember, I’m being utopian.

Were it not for the fact that he’s a little long in the tooth now, I’d actually like to see Jimmy Carter head up the Dept of Justice. You get the feeling he’d make it live up to its name for once. As is, I think he serves his country best doing exactly what he’s doing now, as the “elder statesman” of the Democratic party.
