Always do the right thing
You’ve probably heard by now that Ossie Davis is dead. I hadn’t said anything about it here because I couldn’t think of anything to say.
Fortunately, Roger Ebert stepped up with a memorial piece that may tell you one or two things about the actor/activist you didn’t know (it did me). For example, did you know his was the voice saying “A mind is a terrible thing to waste” on the United Negro College Fund ads that were so memorable?*
*And memorably garbled by Dan Quayle. “What a waste it is to lose one’s mind. Or not to have a mind is being very wasteful. How true that is.”
