The Sound of the Crowd

Thinking Pink

As you may know, a remake of The Pink Panther starring Steve Martin as Inspector Jacques Clouseau is due later this year. I’m open to it; I enjoyed the Blake Edwards films but not so much as to think a new version of the character couldn’t be funny. Provided it is a new version and not just a Sellers “retread” (if they want that, they might as well have just hired Geoffrey Rush).

The cast is promising, especially (besides Martin) Kevin Kline as Clouseau’s long-suffering superior. And Jean Reno deserves to be in a good movie. The thought of direction by Shawn “Just Married” Levy isn’t particuarly inspiring, but we shall see.

Whether the film is succesful or not, though, the opening cartoon on the “teaser” web site is kind of fun, even if the trailer seems to confirm my hunch that it could go either way.
