James “the” Mann was the first to respond to my latest “Please tip your blogger generously” post earlier this week. He went and checked out my Amazon.com wish list, and sent off a copy of the very best of Soft Cell.

Although, he assures me, normally it would be against his principles to further the spread of Soft Cell in any way. So any of you who look to him to tell you to what you should be listening, fear not, he hasn’t sold out.

If I may be permitted a small play on words, I’ve got a soft spot for Soft Cell. They’re not Depeche Mode or even Alphaville, but who is? Anyway, it came today, and James, I fucking love the album.

Plus I felt like such a failure as an “eighties man” without at least one of their CDs in my collection. Speaking of which, now to see if that damn out of print self-titled second Heaven 17 album has turned up anywhere…
