The Sound of the Crowd

What’s a girl like you doing on a knight like this?

The new film “Inside Deep Throat” documents the brief period of “porno chic” we had in this country in the early to mid ’70s. In its honor, the editor of rogerebert.com has prepared an article compling excerpts from Ebert’s reviews of those films.

Among them, a couple that would become favorites of mine or otherwise important when I saw them on video in the ’80s.

“Alice In Wonderland” is, as Ebert wrote, “An X-rated musical comedy that actually has some wit and style to it.” The songs are actually pretty good too–the title of one is the headline to this entry.

And “Emmanuelle,” of course, starred Sylvia Kristel, who I think may have been (I’m honestly not sure) the first woman I ever saw naked onscreen–an important moment in any young boy’s life.
