Ya need to read this book. Excellent look at how the conservative movement mobilized people into voting completely against their best interest, in the name, largely, of “culture wars”.
The game plan seemed to be, in Kansas as an example, was to give large amounts of tax breaks and welfare to large farms, gut the education system and watch towns wither away, but rally those most hurt by these actions to stop gay marriage or the teaching of evolution. Whew. That puts food on the table, don’t it?
