With a sparse sound rooted on the insistent ticking of a dry drum kit, layered spangles of guitars, and vocals that sound like multiple personalities finally agreeing on something, Colorado’s Disappearer keep the flame of post-rock blazing bright.
The EP opens with “Last Dance In The Dark,” a grim account themed on the Club Q shootings in Colorado Springs that immediately clues you in to Disappearer’s unflinching nature. Dissonant guitar lines reminiscent of Sonic Youth are a common thread from the start, and the album’s strolling pace is fairly consistent across most of the tracks on here, with the exception being the more methodical passive aggressive rumblings of “You A Filthy Rat.”
In keeping up with these modern times, Disappearer has released this six-song EP on all streaming platforms and additionally in cassette form, should you have a Nakamichi deck tucked away somewhere, or require a physical icon designed to contain these chunks of urgent sadness as a token of your devotion.
