Even though this band has been around, together and apart, for years, PYPY may be just a mathematical concept in your brain right now. Get up, get out, go listen to “Lonely Striped Sock,” and never do math again.
PYPY, “pi pi” if you’re American and, yes, “pee pee” if you’re in Montreal and speaking French, centers on singer Annie-Claude Deschênes (Duchess Says) and guitarist Roy Vucino (the Spaceshits, les Sexareenos, CPC Gangbangs, Red Mass), with Philippe Clement playing that incredible bass and Simon Besrébut on drums, yet they manage to sound like ten musicians and a full-on bass-guitar symphony jamming in the basement of the coolest friend you have.
“Lonely Striped Sock” comes in hot and trips along, with that super grooving, hard jamming bass and Deschênes’ voice its own versatile instrument. “Hello my dear, oh what a surprise… Don’t pull me up, now… When you’re wearing me, I feel so hypnotized…”
This track slams, but I have to tell you, the rest of the album is going to put you in a damn headlock. It’s out October 18, 2024. Go get it. ◼
