Talkie Talkie

City Slang

Is there such a thing as too much instrumental surf disco? I keep getting to the final track on Talkie Talkie, the saucily-titled “Let Me Cook You,” and deciding that no, I can handle more, around the block another time.

Suck on that one, bitch!” exclaims the band towards the end of the resulting introductory track, “Hi!,” and those are the last words you hear as the album careens through an even dozen compositions before getting to the aforementioned closer. In between, you have many exemplary soundtracks for activities both extreme and relaxing, the incisive twang of guitars and insistent rumble of bass and drums providing even your most everyday errand with an edge of drama. Hang ten on your shopping cart, or travel through interstellar dimensions as you’re creeping through the car wash. It’s all possible with Talkie Talkie on deck.
