Tiger 54
Distortida Records
Tiger 54 are an art damaged electro punk band from Saint Petersburg, Florida. When performing live, they play in the dark, illuminated only by old black and white films projected over them. It gives the project an air of mystery. What I can tell you is there is a female lead singer who channels her inner Lydia Lunch through the microphone. The other member of the band is male and plays synths and guitar. The rhythms are produced by drum machines, which keep the pace frantic and the mood angry.
On their debut record, Tiger 54 do a good job of capturing their live energy. The record has 10 blasts of pissed off attitude set to danceable beats. The songs are mainly complaints about day to day stressors, like “Yr Shitty Attitude Sux” and “Bad Neighbors.” “The Alone Crowd” laments the feeling of being isolated even when surrounded by people. They chant down insipid people with “Stop Talking” and unwanted attention on “So Over It.” The album is a heavy dose of angst and anger, just right for shouting along to in the car while stuck in traffic or shaking body parts on the dance floor.
