Shout It On The Mountain

Heavy Medication Records

The Neverland Ranch Davidians belong to the cult of dirty garage punk. The guitars are loud and nasty, the rhythms are hard driving, and the lyrics are goofy. Tex Mosley is one of the guitarists and vocalists. He has been playing in punk and garage bands around the Los Angeles area since the early 1980s, so you know he’s doing this because the music has to come out, not because he’s expecting to become rich and famous.

The Davidians have a strong blues influence, putting them on the same turf as Jon Spencer Blues Explosion. They do Eddie Floyd’s “Big Bird” and Skip James’s “Hard Time Killing Floor.” “I Think I’m Positive” reminds me of the Velvet Underground’s “Murder Mystery.” Mosley frets about feeling sick while waiting for test results. He breaks into Screaming Jay Hawkins shouting when he gets the results and vows to get on the train and cough on everyone.

Shout it on the Mountain is released by Heavy Medication Records, which is headquartered in Warsaw, Poland. It just shows that the cult of fuzz in an international thing.
