In Transmission
“Catching Up”
“Catching Up,” the new single from SoCal post-rock/indie outfit In Transmission, delivers an urgent appeal for consideration of the plight of others in a world plagued by self-absorption.
Formed in 2011 by Martin Diaz (guitar, vocals), formerly of Mikoto, In Transmission includes Garrett Carroll (drums), Daniel Cardoza (guitar), Darrell Schwaigger (bass), and Jerome De Leon (guitar). Initially, In Transmission’s sound revolved around spacey, melodic soundscapes, but evolved into a thicker sound of post-rock and indie surfaces.

Opening on tight, glinting, yet dirty guitars, “Catching Up” rides a potent, measured beat as Diaz’s intense, evocative vocals imbue the lyrics with fervent, musing flavors. A softer, shimmering bridge shifts the feel of the melody from weighty, almost burning energy to a dreamlike experience, followed by returning to its hefty, harmonic sensation.
“You only think about yourself and what you want to do / Forget about the rest of us / If it’s out of sight / It’s out of mind / And that’s alright / When you don’t care.”
The video, shot and edited by Cheyne Smith, offers a rotating perspective of alternating colors and instrumental arrangements, giving the visuals a surreal proportional depth.
Seething with raw textures and viscous impact, with “Catching Up,” In Transmission delivers a seismically insightful song.
“Catching Up” was lifted from In Transmission’s upcoming EP, Betterment, produced by Beau Burchell (Saosin, Chevelle, Senses Fail, ERRA) and mastered by Alan Douches (West West Side Music). Set to release on August 15, Betterment explores processes of personal healing and transformation via ambient layers of texturization, dense rhythmic cadence, and enveloping vocals.
