Mimika
Interesting Things
Sugar Mi Records
“Interesting Things,” the new single/music video from singer-songwriter Mimika, is a break-up song that simultaneously provides both catharsis and empowerment, as well as the satisfying bonus of reminding your ex of what he’s lost.
The cogency of the song is summed up in one wickedly pointed line: “How come the only interesting thing that ever happened to you was me?”
In the final analysis, “Interesting Things” becomes way more than another break-up song. It morphs into an assertion of emotional independence and the subsequent freedom from external influences.
A graduate of Berklee College of Music, Mimika, who plays piano, guitar, and flute, describes her unique sound as “orchestral pop.” In 2023, she broke through with her EP, Love and What I Thought It Was, featuring “Sunday Afternoon.” She followed by dropping her EP, Space & Dust, in 2024.
Now with more than two million streams, Mimika is putting the finishing touches on her forthcoming EP, Beaming Daisies, an account of finding peace and inner joy in the midst of the murk of the surrounding world.
“Interesting Things” rolls out on low-slung, shimmering pop tones flowing into an upbeat rhythm topped by gleaming guitars. Backed by soft, sighing vocal harmonies, Mimika’s polished, crystalline voice imbues the lyrics with delectable charm and subtle flair. There’s an evocative openness to Mimika’s vocals, at once honest and oh-so revealing.
Seductively intimate and immersed in a silky, gently effervescent melody, “Interesting Things” finds Mimika acknowledging her self-worth.
