“Braveheart”

Princeton student and emerging pop star Hanna Andréa unveils her new single, “Braveheart,” the title track from her upcoming EP. The song explores the power of self-acceptance, asserting that you don’t have to be perfect to succeed in life.

The lyrics reveal the passionate vulnerability of the song: “These walls / Have secrets bricks full of stories 20ft tall / You’ll find / Your weakness / Is fighting to be perfect feeling so small.”

Produced by Michael Biancaniello (Jordin Sparks, Shawn Mendes, Kelly Clarkson) and Swedish producer Michael Viklund (Alder, Michael Fearon, Ginger Lo), the forthcoming EP shows off Andréa’s distinctive sound: a blend of pop, indie, and early-2000s pop-rock with hints of emo running through it.

Andréa’s sound is unique and reflects her unique personal history. Her father is Norwegian and plays piano, so during the summer months, she lived in Norway, playing barefoot outside her grandparents’ house in Narvik. The midnight sun hovered overhead.

The rest of the year, she lived in the U.S. Her mother, whose interests are ballet and academics, is a citizen of the Muscogee Nation. A proud citizen of the Muscogee Nation, Andréa’s multicultural background gives her an inimitable perspective on life and music.

Currently studying at Princeton University, Andréa’s time revolves around her studies and her music. In 2024, she released her debut album, Stranded in the Middle, featuring “If I Were to Drown” and “Past Midnight.” In addition, her YouTube channel boasts 397,000 subscribers and millions of views.

“Braveheart” rolls out on elegant, drifting, chiming tones backed by gentle sweeping strings. A mid-tempo, throbbing rhythm infuses the melody with the feeling of a beating heart, balanced on the precipice of making a life-changing decision. Andréa’s oh-so evocative voice, delicate yet projecting an inner cogency, imbues the lyrics with the compassionate courage of self-respect.

Sharing an innate feel for alternative pop that’s unusually complex and gorgeous, with “Braveheart,” Hanna Andréa sweeps listeners up into another world.
