ET Boys’ new single, “queremos rock (go thru the motions),” finds the band occupying that uneasy emotional place where affection becomes perfunctory. Hovering between melodic rap and soft focus, nu pop, and hints of alt-rock, the track captures the emotional static of a relationship that’s still moving but no longer alive, its struggle ongoing rather than resolved. Paired with a minimalist lyric video, mood becomes the engine of the track.
At ET Boys’ core are Tacboy’s wickedly unique, intimate vocal delivery, Sharkeyes’ sleek yet edgy production, and Monsie’s guitar accents.
Sharkeyes and ET Boys handle production duties themselves, with Sharkeyes also mixing the track; the mastering of Ted Jensen at Sterling Sound gives the track sonic articulation without reducing the song’s emotional grit.
Formed in 2021 by South Florida brothers Sharkeyes and Tacboy, ET Boys initially surfaced under the category of melodic rap/nu pop. That distinction has gradually loosened. Over a short but eventful run, ET Boys have developed a sound that’s more fluid than categorical, folding shifting rhythms and genre bleeds into wonderfully alluring melodies.
From the early appeal of “Sober” to a recent opening slot for Riff Raff, their artistic evolution is grounded in hard work combined with innate talent. “queremos rock” continues that pattern of dynamic creativity and imagination. Despite constantly testing new textures and tones, ET Boys take care of their emotional center.
Monsie’s stripped-down, Jack White-like guitar provides the intro to “queremos rock.” The rhythm exudes tints of pop cadence, yet never loses its organic, alt-rock feel. The highlight of the track is Tacboy’s expressive voice, ranging from gentle and quixotic to assertive and cutting. Swirling synths infuse the melody with inserts of lysergic surfaces, adding shifting flair to the harmonics.
