Argh, when is the no wave / Brooklyn-hype going to end? Not with The Rogers Sisters’ debut album, that’s for sure. Far outweighing any annoying trend-hype by sheer talent, The Rogers Sisters churn through a brief and energetic set with playful arrogance and snotty charm. Commenting on everything from the hip Brooklyn scene (“Now They Know”) to being poor and hungry (“The Money Life”), they avoid profoundness with a vengeance, making a case for the value of having a good time, just playing music and hanging out.
The Rogers Sisters aren’t doing anything new on here, and sound nowhere near as relevant as Liars or Yeah Yeah Yeahs. Yet, they’re so persistent about their no wave-traditionalism that it’s just about impossible not to love them for it.
