“Talk To Me”

The indie outfit known as Special K’s unveils their new single/music video, “Talk To Me,” a song capturing the deep, visceral emotions of losing a loved one and the feelings of connection that remain in the aftermath.

The lyrics reveal the agony of grief, akin to feeling your way through a maze, crying and alone, while at the same time sensing the presence of the lost person watching over you, helping you, holding your hand.

Talk to me / I’m down here feeling so lonely / Walk with me as I stumble through the dark.”

Dubbed “sonic chameleons,” the Special K’s are a studio collective of artists whose sound is probably best described as genre-fluid indie-rock.

Special K’s broke through in 2020 with the release of “Makes Me Feel Good,” featuring The Killers’ Erika Canales, along with Brian Griffin, Dave Sherman, and Greg Wieczorek. The song appeared everywhere, including a GEICO ad campaign, and the music video amassed more than 60,000 YouTube views.

“Talk To Me” opens on a retro-flavored melody vaguely reminiscent of The Beatles, with its gentle rolling tones and appealing swaying motion. Soft, gleaming guitars ride a gentle rhythm as aching vocals narrate poignant wistfulness. Layered vocal harmonies imbue the lyrics with the sensation of a petitionary prayer — lonely and longing.

On “Talk To Me,” the Special K’s soothe heartache with an imaginative, searching melody that serves as catharsis.
