Simply put, the Alice Cooper group was cool. Oozing allure, mystique, and boasting a string of hit singles and platinum-selling albums, the outrageous troupe had become one of the biggest rock bands in the world by late 1974. Then it all imploded, and notorious ringleader and namesake, Alice Cooper, struck out on his own.
Released in the spring of 1975, Cooper’s debut solo record, Welcome to My Nightmare, was a masterpiece concept album that told the haunting nocturnal tale of a boy named Steven, portrayed by Cooper. Serving up an intoxicating aural cocktail of mid-tempo creepers and rib-cracking anthems with random splashes of macabre cabaret, Welcome to My Nightmare was an instant Top Ten smash and is now considered a classic. And the subsequent promotional concert tour was one of the most successful sight and sound spectacles of the day.
To commemorate the Welcome to My Nightmare 50th anniversary, on November 28th, Rhino Records is dropping Welcome To My Nightmare Live From the Forum 6/17/75. Capturing Cooper live in concert during (arguably) his creative apex, the limited edition release will be a Black Friday Record Store Day exclusive. Featuring live prime cuts from the studio LP, the two-record, black vinyl set is also packed with Alice Cooper group O.G. hits.
In sum, for those who still crave classic Coop, this one is gonna be a RSD must-get!
