Kyle Harvey
Riverboats (Single)
Western Colorado provides a healthy scene for songwriters willing to put in the work and look outside the safety of this high-desert bubble as they emerge from woodshed sessions and ask to be heard by a broader audience. Kyle Harvey is noticeably rising up among this community of creators.
Building on the momentum of his impressive October 2025 release, Anywhere But Here, Kyle delivers another example of his willingness to stretch with the new single, “Riverboats.” With his signature minimalist footprint on vocals and guitar, Harvey’s progressive folk sound is beautifully punctuated by Nashville’s Oliver Bates Craven on fiddle. The way Craven’s phrasing rises at the opportunity then yields so as not to overshadow Harvey’s vocals and lyrics speaks volumes to the trust between musicians. There’s a nostalgic John Hartford essence to his playing that is always welcomed.
“Riverboats” delivers with an easy sway, a contemplation on when to leave, and a tug at the heart when you know the answer. At just under three minutes, this song deserves a followup with a full album. I’m looking forward to how this story unfolds.
